Gaming on the go. Sure, we could always do this with a DS or a PSP, but a device that has games, music, video and a phone all in one? Well my friends, that’s where you get a little closer to tech nirvana. So this week on TOP 5, I’ll be taking a look at some a of the best iPhone games I have played so far.

#5: Tap Defense

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=297558390&mt=8

Price: FREE

No iPhone game list would be complete without at least one tower defense game. So as you can see, I am simply holding up my end of the TOP 5 bargain. If you enjoy defending towers, then you will enjoy this game. Simply tap the screen to place your defense towers and you’ll be killing lizards in no time! There are a ton of levels and upgrades, but all of that means nothing really. Bottom line is, it’s a great tower defense game and it’s got a great price. How does FREE sound? Good? I thought so.

#4: Bookworm

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=307176281&mt=8

Price: $2.99

Those who know me well are probably surprised to see any other PopCap game here besides Peggle. What can I say? I am full of surprises. Bookworm for the iPhone is a lot like Bookworm anywhere else. Find and tap to make words in the stacks of letters to earn points and rise up in the ranks of library employment. Be sure to get rid of the letters on fire though, because once those reach the bottom, your library goes up in flames and it’s game over. My picture COULD of been how amazing my word list is, but I didn’t want to make you feel bad.

#3: Doodle Jump

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=307727765&mt=8

Price: $0.99

We are entering addictive territory with Doodle Jump. Tilt The Doodler onto platforms where he will jump to higher and higher platforms. Miss the platform and you can kiss The Doodler goodbye. What makes this so addicting is the fact that games are quick, and you can watch as you pass your friends on the right hand side of the screen. Doodle Jump is also updated OFTEN with little easter egg hints, like how to change the look of The Doodler, as well as new enemies and power ups. You can also twitter and facebook your scores to challenge others if you think your score is super impressive. Could be the best 99 cents you ever spend!

#2: Harbor Master

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=313014213&mt=8

Price: $0.99

Flight control? That was soooo last year. Enter Harbor Master. A lot similar to flight control, only cooler. Guide ships sailing in after a long stint on the open sea, into the loving embrace of a dock, by drawing a line from the boat into the slip, and watch as they unload their cargo. If that sounds easy, try playing the game. Crashing any of the boats will end the game, and you’ll be sent back to the beginning to try again. This is another game that is always being updated with new ports to play, and different game modes, so the price is very right. It’s the 99 cent game that keeps on giving!

#1: Dungeon Hunter

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=329899071&mt=8

Price: $6.99

One of the pricier games in the iTunes app store, but it’s worth every penny. It’s a Diablo clone with great looking graphics and a control solution that could make any ‘iPhone as a gaming platform’ skeptic change their mind. Hack and slash your way through quests as you gather loot and level up to be THE Dungeon Hunter. So why did I make this my #1 choice in this weeks Top 5? Mainly because it is the first game I have come across in the iTunes store that really feels like a FULL game. The controls have moments where they flake out, but it certainly does not break the experience.

This is the obligatory moment in TOP 5 where I cover my ass, and explain why YOUR favorite iPhone game is not in this list. Obviously I have not played every game there is to be played on the iTunes app store, so yeah, I left a couple thousand of them out. So tell me, what games am I missing out on? What are your favorite games for the iPhone (or any other phone)?
