I Have App Fever!
September 30th, 2009 by Dana

While the rest of the world is worried about catching the dreaded N1H1, your friend Dana has been stricken with something far more serious. I like to call it, App Fever.
I knew the moment that I was in the market to purchase my iPhone that there were a few apps out there that were a must have. Apps like Facebook, Twitter, the usual. Little did I know that lurking around the corner in an iTunes store that I can access at any time and any where, were 66,000+ apps waiting to give me the dreaded fever.
It started innocently enough. I got the social apps I knew I would get and a couple of games. Within a few days, the chills started, and I was well on my way to an illness I would never forget. I started checking the app store once a night. Then twice a day. And before I knew it, I was getting billed for 99 cents here, $1.99 there, over and over. The fever clouds your mind and you start to forget that these charges add up to real money! Slowly my credit card was getting clogged with a discharge that only the app fever can cause. But how could I resist? An app to help me with my banking (yes, even I see the irony in that), one to tell me where to eat, and another to tell me what music I am listening to. Not to mention all the casual games I can get my little gamer hands on like Peggle, Bejeweled, or Wolfenstein RPG!
I may be ill, but I can tell you this. There is a cure. The simple realization that I use HALF the the apps I have bought was enough to bring my fever down to a more rational state. Despite the price tag of ONLY 99 cents, I can say no! (sometimes.) I think I am feeling much better, but the cure takes time. You have to be able to resist these things. I, for one cannot. So if you are anyone but me, and the chances are good that you are, you may already be immune to App Fever. Now go wash your hands.
(The above picture is of my iPhone’s home screen. As you can see, the infection has taken over many of the apps already provided for me by Apple. There are 3 more pages like this. Call an ambulance please.)

Looks like half those apps are free. You’re not doing too badly Dana.

Don’t be like me and not sync all your apps to the PC. You’ll lose them all if you have to restore your device. I lost all my apps, a good $15- $20 down the drain. I guess you can say I’m cured from my fever cause I’m never going to buy an app again.

I love me some apps. Only have a touch though so I’m easy for them only having the wi-fi connection.
